Field and Forest Club at Sundial Classical Farmstead
K-6th Grade | Ages 5 to 12 | Monday through Friday | 3:45 PM - 5:30 PM

Welcome to the Field and Forest Club, a unique after-school program launching this fall at Sundial Classical Farmstead! Conveniently located along the road that serves as the dividing line for both the Haslett Public School and Bath Community School districts, our club offers a drop-off program for students, allowing them to transition smoothly from school to enriching outdoor experiences. Students from both public school systems can enjoy convenient drop-off by bus after school.
About the Field and Forest Club
The Field and Forest Club is designed to address the gaps in modern education by embracing the concept of schole—a relaxed and attentive study of nature & the world for true mastery. In a society where children often experience rushed schedules and shallow learning, our program serves as a refreshing antidote, encouraging sustained focus and meaningful engagement with the natural world.
Daily Structure
Each day begins with a complimentary snack, followed by 30-45 minutes of organized outdoor recreation to help students unwind after a long day in school. We then reconvene for a seasonally-relevant nature lesson that incorporates art or literature, fostering close, unhurried observation of the living world.
Weekly Themes
To keep the experience dynamic and engaging, each day of the week will feature a different focus:

- Monday Nature & Literature Study: Start the week with a focus on nature study and classic literature, encouraging deep observation and appreciation of the natural world.
- Traditional Games Tuesdays : Engage in traditional games and sports such as wiffle ball, badminton, ultimate Frisbee, and capture the flag. During colder months, this day will shift to winter sports and games, as well as board & strategy games for intellectual stimulation and indoor fun!
- Wednesdays Regenerative Farming : Dive into the principles and practices of regenerative farming around our farmstead, exploring sustainable practices that benefit the environment and promote healthy ecosystems.
- Culinary Thursdays: Discover the art of cooking and food processing, learning how to prepare and preserve seasonal ingredients.
- Foraging Fridays: Wrap up the week with hands-on foraging activities, exploring edible plants and their uses. Colder months will have students engaged in our winter hoop house growing.
As we develop the farmstead, we will continue to introduce a variety of focuses in livestock care, woodworking and textile arts.
